Man gets life in prison on child porn conviction

A Las Vegas man convicted on child pornography-related charges has been sentenced to life in prison – the first such case in Nevada, U.S. attorney Greg Brower announced Thursday.

Robert Myron Latham, 58, was sentenced on charges of advertising, transporting, receiving and possessing child pornography after federal agents found hundreds of images in Latham’s possession. Latham was subject to a life sentence under federal law because of prior sexual offense convictions in which a minor was the victim, Brower’s office said.

Latham was indicted in November 2006 after an FBI investigation identified people sharing child pornography over the Internet. In February 2005, an FBI agent found hundreds of image files indicative of child pornography stored on an Internet site associated with a computer registered to Latham.

In June 2005, federal agents discovered Latham’s computer contained more than 500 images of child pornography, many of which were labeled by name and categories, Brower’s office said.

Latham was convicted in September 2008 of notice to distribute child pornography, transporting child pornography, receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography.

Latham was convicted in 1987 of several counts of sexual abuse of a minor in Alaska and sentenced to eight years in prison. Court documents indicate Latham sexually molested his step-daughter over several years, beginning when she was 6 years old.
