Henderson is taking sign-ups for its 14th annual Sportco Spring Premiere Softball Tournament, scheduled for Feb. 14 and 15.
With 18 teams last year, the city is expecting the tournament to expand to close to 25 teams this year in what has become the unofficial beginning of the recreation softball season in Southern Nevada.
"This is sort of the kick-off event for Henderson and really for the Las Vegas Valley," Recreation Services Supervisor Ted Lockamon said. "It's pretty highly anticipated by a lot of good softball teams."
Teams will be split into two divisions, E and D, with E serving as an entry-level novice division and D serving as a slightly more advanced division. There will be awards for first place through third place in both divisions, with each division being awarded its own Most Valuable Player award.
Teams can register through Feb. 10 for $225 per team, which can be paid in person at the sports office, 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd., or by calling 267-5700.
The tournament will be held at the Russell Road Recreation Complex at 5901 E. Russell Road, with games beginning at 8 a.m.
"In the past we've generally had a high level of play with some competitive match-ups," Lockamon said. "We expect that to continue this year."
