Baha'i Group to host prayer session

The Baha'i Community of Boulder City will host a gathering to pray for departed loved ones at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18.

The non-denominational meeting is free. There is no obligation to attend and no offering will be taken.

Tourism summit brings in dignitaries

The Boulder City Tourism Commission and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will host a Boulder City Tourism Summit at noon Feb. 19 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman plans to attend.

All local businesses in the tourism and hospitality industry are invited to network with residents and businesses from Las Vegas and Clark County. The summit is free, and all confirmed businesses will have a six-foot table for presentations.

Counselor to speak on veterans' benefits

Nancy Nolette, a veterans' benefits counselor, will discuss eligibility 11-11:45 a.m. Feb. 11 at the Boulder City Senior Center, 813 Arizona St.

Veterans and their dependents who are unsure if they are entitled to state and federal benefits are encouraged to attend. Nolette plans to give talks on the second Wednesday of each month until June.

Dates set for 47th Art in the Park

The date of the 47th annual Art in the Park, the primary fundraiser of the Hospital Foundation benefiting the Boulder City Hospital, has been set for Oct. 3-4 in downtown Boulder City.

Applications for artists and food vendors are due April 15.

Radio host to speak to Republican Women

Heidi Harris, a radio talk show host on KDWN 720-AM, will speak at the Boulder City Republican Women luncheon meeting at 11:20 a.m. Feb. 19 in the Railroad Pass banquet room.

Harris broadcasts 8-10 a.m. on weekdays and was named by Talkers as one of the United States' 100 most influential talk hosts.

Lunch and gratuity costs $20 for everyone.

Expo to focus on health and business

The Boulder City Hospital and the Boulder City Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Community Health Fair and Business Expo 8 a.m.-noon April 11.

The free event will feature health-care providers, screenings, sampling, information, nonprofit groups and businesses as well as activities and food.

Emergency team recruiting members

Boulder City's Community Emergency Response Team is beginning a new six-week course to prepare new members to participate in the town's emergency response plan.

CERT, a once-weekly, three-hour free class for six weeks, prepares participants to survive three days to two weeks without outside help in case of a disaster.

The course runs 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays from Feb. 21 to March 28 at the Senior Center of Boulder City, 813 Arizona St.

Local student on UNR dean's list

Matthew Murphy, a UNR biotechnology freshman, has been named to the 2008 fall semester dean's list for the College of Agriculture, Biotechnology and Natural Resources. Murphy, a 2006 Boulder City High School graduate, was one of 139 students in the college to be honored.

He is the son of Karen and Terry Murphy of Boulder City.
