Letter to the Editor:

Obama is the ultimate communicator

Regarding David Broder’s Sunday column, “Educational value of Obama’s speeches unparalleled”:

How refreshing to hear from anyone who appreciates, let alone clearly understands, the prosaic, albeit political, poetry of what is arguably the absolutely peerless communicator of the past 100 years.

I would not presume to retreat any further in history in deference to the abolitionist president whom our current president has so often quoted and honorably credited in many of his remarks. But I cannot refrain from expressing my immeasurable admiration for a man who has earned such unprecedented kudos and popularity in a century still facing most of the sociological maladies of the past century.

There have been some sincere presidents, honest presidents, articulate, eloquent and popular presidents serving this country over the past three centuries but few, if any, have garnered such a commendable grasp of these graces as has President Barack Obama.

I’ve committed a great deal of my adult life to the clear understanding and use of English as a second language, having emigrated here as a young man, and Mark Twain’s quotations provide some of my greatest inspiration — “a powerful agent is the right word” among many.

We must render to politics, bias and private interests what we must. But to Obama, we must render the praise due him for the boundless awareness of propriety that he projects here and abroad.
