LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

‘Option’ is not the problem; ‘public’ is

In response to Jim Salonisen’s letter to the editor headlined “What part of ‘option’ don’t they understand?”:

I think the average American with average intelligence knows what the word “option” by itself means. I ask readers: Do you know how the meaning of the word “option” changes when the word “public” is added to the front of it, as it is spelled out, time after time, in the liberal Democratic health care proposal?

Isn’t this the height of deception?

What would the majority of Americans think if they saw the word “government” used in front of the word “option,” instead of the word “public”? After all, is it not all about a government-run health care program?

The true result would be the pitting of a government-run plan against the existing private-sector plans. Guess who would win this battle.
