Crash scene
A motorcyclist was critically injured Saturday afternoon when he collided with a car on Lake Mead Boulevard, in the Summerlin area, Metro police said.
The crash happened about 3:30 p.m. west of Rampart Boulevard. Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate the motorcycle was headed west, and a 2002 Mitsubishi Spyder was attempting to make a left turn from eastbound Lake Mead Boulevard into a shopping center, police said.
The Mitsubishi failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of the motorcycle, police said. The motorcyclist, identified as 25-year-old Jeremy Damero of Las Vegas, attempted to avoid a collision by braking, but hit the right front fender of the car. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was admitted in critical condition.
The driver of the car, Tod McGrath, 42, of North Las Vegas suffered minor injuries, police said.
The crash is under investigation, Metro said.

this is an intersection where many accidents happen, something needs to be done about it! put a light there, or close it all together and divert traffic in and out of the shopping center thru a safer route. and once again car hits m/c. m/c loses. car driver not cited serverly enough. pay attention people! m/c.s have a right to the road as much as you do.
You can put a light on every intersection and entrance to every shopping center and you would still have things like this happen. The guy in the car was reckless. If the motorcyclist should die, the driver of the car should be charged and prosecuted.
Hang in there Jeremy...
between text messageing and talking on the phone, most people don't have time to look out for motorcycles.
After many, many years of riding a motorcycle, I recently decide to give up riding. I have been hit twice by inattentive drivers making left hand turns in front of me. A combination of skill/luck/just wasn't my time, got me through alive.
Just too many distractions going on inside cars now. Motorcyclist/ bicyclist/pedestrians just don't have a chance.
It's not if you're going to get hurt on a motorcycle but when.
I disagree with joevegas about that intersection. there IS a light there with arrows. The only serious danger near that corner are the senior senior citizens driving into and in the parking lot of the Smiths that is on the nw corner of this shopping mall. In my opinion one of the most dangerous parking lots in Vegas.
Besides the certain percentage of drivers who have poor skills (why do we not require simulator training to obtain a driver license?), why does society allow people to use cell phones while driving when we know it lowers the driver's attention to that of an intoxicated driver???
People who talk on cell phones while driving (oh no! just can't pull over) are of the same intellect as those who do you know what with tobaccco products.

reminds me of what I just saw yesterday - Metro car next to me and the cop was te xting!
Having been the owner of a couple of sportbikes in this town, I had so many near death situations that I decided to hang it up.I loved nothing more than riding but no matter what, You can't control the morons around you! I hope he pulls through,GOD BLESS.
Senior citizens are some of the worst. I was hit by one when I was 16, riding a m/c. The old fella shot out of a supermarket parking lot. I hit the front of him and went air born. Lucky to survive that even at 35/40 mph.
My love to Jeremy's family and friends. You are in my prayers.
Sounds like this motorcyclist was doing nothing wrong, my prayers go out to him for a full recovery, BUT I have seen cyclists do some STUPID things!! Racing in between cars along the lane markers, cutting cars off by swerving in and out of traffic, riding along with the front wheel up in the air, riding without a helmet . . . motorcyclists need to watch out for themselves as well as the other traffic. I'm tired of reading comments about how "nobody watches out for cyclists" - they are some of the WORST drivers out there!!!!

when I say senior senior i meant the ones in their late 70's, 80's and up. at this Smiths, some cant even see over the steering wheel! They bring out their big Buicks and Cadillacs once a week and go to the store and rarely pay attention to what they are doing, I've been almost hit several times, my guess is most shouldn't even be behind the wheel, which is scary.
Det. Munch, the guy that hit me was late 70s or early 80s and exactly as you described. He tried to get me to sign something saying it wasn't his fault. Looking back that was very deceitful on his behalf, he knew he was at fault and there he was trying to get a young kid to collaborate his lies. People like him shouldn't be on the road, period.
Was behind a bluehair today driving with her turn signal on -nothing wrong with that- but for the fact that she was on an entrance ramp to a highway. Furthermore it was her left signal which suggests gramma was ponderin' a northbound suicide/homicide mission while on a southbound strip of highway. Not to stereotype oh hell how about an honest moment? but of course she was driving a fecal-colored Mercury Grand Marquis that no doubt deceased husband bought just before he went to Jesus on the back nine in 2006. The grown kids said Ma sell that thing while practical daughter-n-law thought well at least she'll be safe driving it.
Next stop after the pharmacy? A Harley.
det. munch, i' think you need to go see to the sence of the accidentm and look at the paint marks in the road , put down by the police. there is not a light there. i drove past the accident its slef. and i have seen other accident there in the past. it is the turn lane on lake mead into the parking lot.
Thank God Jeremy was wearing a helmet. He was apparently thrown off several feet from his motorcycle and landed on his side. It was a miracle that he survived the accident. I'm glad that he tried very hard to fight for his life. We'll pray for your quick recovery Jeremy. Just continue to be strong. One thing about this accident is that people whether they're driving or not should learn respect by knowing how to YIELD.
Thank you all for your support and prayers. I am Jeremy's older sister. Just for the record his last name is spelled Damery. He is holding stable for now but still in very bad shape. The prayers are working so please keep them coming. Thank you and God bless.
This is Jeremy's cousin Kelly. Like his sister Kristy, I too am grateful for your words of support and encouragement. As a native Las Vegan who has seen this city grow for better and for worse, it warms my heart to know that the kindness of strangers is still alive and well. Thank you so much for all of your get well wishes.
Hey 42 isn't old. I pray for Jeremy's quick recovery. But it's hard to judge a oncoming motocycle's speed. In CA a driver pulled out of a shopping center and a motorcycle hit him right between the doors. The street speed limit was 40 mph, accident investigators estimated the bikes speed at 70+. The court said it was the cars fault. The biker died at the scene of the accident and the driver went to prison. The only safe thing to do is no left turns, 3 rights instead.
