It seems that every television ad, print ad and congressman who is against reforming health care uses the Lewin Group for its statistics and analysis.
Even the Las Vegas Review-Journal partly based an editorial (“Health insurance ‘reform,’ ” Saturday) on findings of this supposed independent research firm.
A 30-second search of the Lewin Group Web site reveals that it is “a wholly-owned subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.” UnitedHealth Group is one of the largest health insurance companies in the country, whose profits off the sick are astronomical, whose CEO’s salary is in the millions and which has been acquiring other insurance companies at breakneck speed to ensure less competition for out-of-control premiums.
I don’t know which is more irresponsible and deceitful, being ignorant of who is behind the Lewin Group or knowing this information and failing to disclose it.
