Letter to the editor:

Whole Foods is not what it seems

It is ironic that, with his recent commentary in The Wall Street Journal, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey has raised the curtain on his business practices, showing former customers, such as myself, just how the sausage is made.

I read the piece, and it was a valid opinion. It did seem a bit at odds with my perception of the company, so I did a little research. The truth seems to be that Whole Foods is little better than Wal-Mart when it comes to employee pay or benefits, has as an overarching corporate goal to remain nonunion, and ruthlessly gobbles up small, local businesses in pursuit of monopoly.

Why wouldn’t its founder read from the corporate playbook when it comes to health care reform?
