Letter to the editor:

Germany seems to have it figured out

I was fascinated by Nicole Lucht’s column in Sunday’s Las Vegas Sun in which she describes Germany’s health care system.

She wrote, “Everyone has health insurance, and the premiums paid are placed into a pool and distributed among the 200 nonprofit insurers from which Germans can choose.” Think of it:

They can choose among 200 providers, none of which is the federal government!

The government does not provide the medical care or pay for it. It’s all handled by the insurers. The government doesn’t actually get into medical care.

Apparently, all the government does is decide how much total money is needed and then divide it among the citizens, collect it and distribute it to the insurers. As a conservative, I might even be able to go for this.
