The Boulder City Police Explorers are currently recruiting for new members. Young men and women, between the ages of 14 and 20 are eligible and will have the opportunity to participate in special events, as well as the day-to-day operations of the police department.

Police Explorers are not paid, however, they do receive special training in certain areas including traffic control, handcuffing, firearms safety (although they are not allowed to carry a weapon, they are still trained on firearms safety), evidence/crime scene preservation, arrest procedures and much more.

There is a meeting at the police department on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.

This is an exciting time to be a member of the Boulder City Police Department family and we encourage those who are eligible to attend.

Aug. 13

Officer Salazar responds to the 1300 block of Nevada Highway for a report of a disturbance. Salazar determines that a domestic battery has occurred and takes the female combatant into custody.

Aug. 14

Narcotics Detectives serve a search warrant on the 1700 block of Red Mountain Drive for a wanted fugitive. The fugitive is located inside the residence and taken into custody. During the course of the search, a male inside the residence became non-compliant with the detectives and was subsequently arrested for obstructing a peace officer.

Aug. 14

Officer Case responds to the 600 block of Avenue M for a report of a domestic disturbance. Case speaks with witnesses who advise that three people had been walking up Utah Street when one of the males and the female began fighting. The male then grabbed the female by the hair and threw her to the ground.

Seeing this occur, two brothers (good Samaritans) intervened.

At that time, one of the brothers was challenged to a fight by the aggressive male, and he was forced to defend himself by punching him in the face.

The two brothers followed the three to their home whereupon the police arrived. The situation escalated from there as the male and female resisted arrest and battered several officers on scene.

Officers were able to detain the aggressive male after he was shocked with a Taser.

All three subjects were arrested for obstructing, battery on a peace officer, minor in consumption, minor in possession, and domestic battery.

Aug. 17

The Boulder City PD receives a report of a drunk driver inbound from Henderson.

The caller advises dispatch that the vehicle he is following was swerving all over the road, struck the median, and was speeding on the freeway. Sgt. John Glenn locates the vehicle on New Mexico Street and is able to get it to stop. After a comical attempt at performing field sobriety tests, the driver is arrested for DUI.

Aug. 17

Officer Henke responds to the 1400 block of Coronado Drive for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Upon arrival, Officer Henke learns that the male half had asked his son to retrieve his gun so he could kill everyone in the home, then told his daughter that he was going to cut her throat and burn the house down.

The male then exited the home and attempted to start a fire by lighting a towel on fire near a propane tank in the carport.

The male then left the scene, injuring himself in the process by falling from a high block wall.

Henke locates the male at the hospital the following day and learns that he had left the residence and passed out drunk in the desert that night.

He awoke at approximately noon the next day and went to the hospital for a broken wrist.

Henke interviews the man and subsequently arrests him for violating the restraining order his wife has against him, harassment, and throwing a substance at or willfully damaging a motor vehicle.

Aug. 19

Officer Woolsey responds to the 900 block of Utah Street for a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Woolsey is confronted by a female who is covered in her own blood and bleeding from her face.

She tells Woolsey that she and her soon to be ex-boyfriend had gone to Del Prado Park to drink some beer and talk about their relationship.

When she told the male that she wanted to end the relationship, he grabbed a plastic bag containing a six pack of bottled beer, and threw it at her, striking her in the face.

The female was transported to Boulder City Hospital due to the extent of her injuries. The male, a convicted felon (for a prior battery on a police officer), was arrested for domestic battery.
