LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Reform health care this way instead

Health care reform requires tort reform. Resorting to the courts should be to compensate for malpractice, but pain and suffering awards now are simply means of enriching lawyers and need to be restricted.

Medical insurance plans should be open nationwide, not offered state by state. Health savings accounts should be encouraged. Small companies should be allowed to form cooperatives. Members of a specific plan should be treated as a group.

The federal government should return to its constitutional duties and allow American ingenuity to flourish. So far, government acts as a restrictor of innovation through overregulation by those most incapable of managing anything profitable.

Please take the time to be responsible and read the House Committee on Education and Labor’s 1,000-page proposal on its Web site.
