Ex-Henderson city manager a finalist for Montana job

WASHINGTON -- Former Henderson City Manager Phil Speight is a finalist for the city manager’s job in Helena, Mont., it was reported today.

Speight is among four finalists being considered for the top administrative post in Montana’s capital city, according to the Helena Independent Record.

Speight was the top manager in Henderson for nearly two decades, stepping down in 2007 to become chief of staff for then-Rep. Jon Porter, a Republican.

Porter was defeated for re-election last fall, losing to Rep. Dina Titus, the first Democrat to represent the district.

Helena, population 25,000, is about one-tenth the size of Henderson. The paper reports the city received 55 applications, and hopes to choose the new manager next month.
