Letter to the Editor:

Part of the problem, not the solution

I had to respond to Dave Mesker’s Thursday letter to the editor, headlined “Leave health care fixing to providers.” Mr. Mesker writes: “Why can’t this problem be put into the hands of the doctors, caregivers, hospitals and insurance companies in this country?”

But it is the insurance companies that have been handling health care for the past several decades. Twenty years ago most insurance plans were pretty good. Now, greed has taken hold and very few people have health insurance that can cover their needs.

Most of us pay $20 of every $100 billed to our insurance companies. It may soon be $35 of every $100.

The insurance companies will try to make it look good by charging you and your employer less in premiums but you will be like a deer in the headlights when you get that bill for a three-day hospital stay. The insurance companies will reap huge profits while you go bankrupt.
