Letter to the Editor:

Look into insurers’ practices isn’t attack

In Bob Jack’s letter to the editor in Friday’s Las Vegas Sun, headlined “Democrats will fight for liberal agenda,” he states that Reps. Henry Waxman D-Calif., and Bart Stupak D-Mich., have sent a letter warning that a House committee will be “examining executive compensation and other business practices of the health industry.”

Mr. Jack seems to have taken this as a threat to “bully anyone who gets in their way on health care.” He says this is an “example of oppressive and egregious tactics of a liberal hate machine.”

Doesn’t Mr. Jack understand that the House has a responsibility to examine the executive compensation and other business practices of the health industry? It’s lawmakers’ responsibility and not “an oppressive and egregious attack.”

How about we tone down the rhetoric and exaggeration and remind ourselves that we live in the United States of America? Surely two of our responsibilities are, as citizens, to seek the truth on an issue and to respect our elected officials.
