DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol says it will submit a report to prosecutors this week about a van rollover that killed two teenagers and injured five other French nationals in Death Valley National Park after leaving Las Vegas.
Capt. Tim Lepper said the weekend accident remained under investigation Monday but the CHP could hand its report to prosecutors for possible criminal prosecution as early as Tuesday.
The driver, 31-year-old Nassera Soudani of France, could be charged with vehicular manslaughter.
The CHP says the driver has acknowledged falling asleep Saturday morning, causing the vehicle to veer off a road.
Soudani was hospitalized with a broken jaw. The four other injured victims are expected to survive.
The French consul in Los Angeles, David Martinon, said Sunday he did not know whether Soudani had retained an attorney.
