In response to Eleanor Papaleo’s Tuesday letter to the editor in the Las Vegas Sun, headlined “Turn cold shoulder to the Eagles, Vick”:
This is America, and this country believes in giving a person another chance once he has paid his debt to society. Sure, dogs are good pets, but they are not human beings. Dogs have done many valuable things, but a dog is still a dog.
Michael Vick, a quarterback recently signed by the Eagles, is a human being who deserves to be treated as such, and time will tell if he is really sorry for his mistake. Only God can judge, not Ms. Papaleo.
I applaud the Eagles for having the courage to give him an opportunity to redeem himself. Tony Dungy, former coach of the Indianapolis Colts, has a lot of respect in the football arena and people respect his judgment. If he thinks Vick is worth saving, then we should give Vick another chance.
It is a sad day when we as a nation of people think a dog is more important than a human.
