10 cooling stations open to serve homeless

Ten cooling stations have opened for the homeless around the Las Vegas Valley in light of today’s heat, Clark County officials announced.

The Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition called for the opening of the stations to serve as temporary areas for homeless to get out of the extreme heat and keep hydrated during the hottest time of the year.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning today for the region from noon to 7 p.m.

The 10 shelters are in addition to the Inclement Weather Shelter Program, which provides long-term day shelters during the summer months.
