Letter to the editor:

Put focus on what’s in health care bill

If it weren’t so serious, it would be amusing to see people ranting and raving at the town-hall meetings about Democratic health care legislation.

Most of them are complaining about provisions that aren’t in the bill. Many of them demand that their representatives read the bill, when it is abundantly clear that they haven’t read it themselves.

Despite many Republicans insisting that it calls for a death panel, no such item is, or ever was, in the proposal. It’s the same with the contention that there will be a government agency to restrict, or ration, health care to all Americans.

How do you discuss this bill with people who actually believe the scare warnings being used by many on the right? The goal of the legislation is to provide health insurance to all Americans, and that’s all it calls for — all other claims are baloney.
