Las Vegas temperatures to climb to 106 today

Slight chance of thunderstorms moves in for the weekend

Find a pool and a icy pitcher of lemonade this afternoon. As the last few days of summer vacation for local school children wind down, Las Vegas' weather will be hot and dry.

The National Weather Service says skies will be sunny and temperatures will climb today to a high of 106 degrees.

That's a few degrees above the normal high temperature of 101 degrees for this date. The record high was 111 degrees, set in 1992. Wednesday's high was 105 degrees.

Tonight, clear skies linger in the area, with the low reaching around 80 degrees and south to southeast winds becoming west southwest, the weather service said.

Thursday and Friday will also be hot and dry, with highs for both days climbing to 107 degrees, forecasters said.

But clouds roll in on Friday night from the south, bringing a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures of 101 degrees for both weekend days, according to the forecast.

Monday, the first day of classes for Clark County public schools, will bring a morning low temperature of 79 degrees, climbing to a high of 101 Monday afternoon, the weather service said.
