Court rejects killer’s request to withdraw guilty plea

CARSON CITY – The Nevada Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Gregory Everett, who wanted to withdraw his guilty plea to first-degree murder in the killing of a Las Vegas man in 1980.

The court said Everett, now 48, filed his motion 16 years after his direct appeal to the court. And he failed to provide any reason for the long interim.

The court said the Clark County District Attorney’s Office “would suffer prejudice if it were forced to proceed to trial after such an extensive delay.”

Everett and two other men were convicted of invading the home of David and Rochelle Kinnamon. David was at work. The pregnant Rochelle was sexually assaulted and her baby died stillborn two days later.

When David returned home, he was shot to death by Thomas Nevius, who received the death penalty. But he gained a reduction from the state Board of Pardons to life without possibility of parole

Art Tiger, the other defendant, received a prison term of life with the possibility of parole in 2020.

Everett, who is serving his sentence at the Ely State Prison, received life without possibility of parole.
