Of all the speculating that followed incipient gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval’s announcement that he was resigning from the federal bench, my favorite was this from one wag: “Now would be the time for state and national Republicans to force out (Sen. John) Ensign before the next shoes drop and Ensign has to resign or be defeated anyway. With Ensign gone (Gov. Jim) Gibbons would quickly appoint Brian so Brian doesn’t run against him in the primary. Of course, you know (Sen.) Harry Reid is working this angle right now. Kills two birds with one stone. With Brian in as senator it protects (gubernatorial contender) Rory (Reid) and Harry ...” And if Reid the Elder is not thinking about it, I hope nobody gives him any ideas ...
