Hot and dry weather continues for Las Vegas

Temperatures to climb to 103 degrees today, with moderate ozone levels

Keep your water bottle handy. Hot and dry weather with slightly above-normal summer desert temperatures are expected this week in the Las Vegas Valley.

Today's forecast calls for sunny skies, with the high reaching near 103 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The normal high temperature for today's date is 102 degrees and the record was 111, set in 1939.

Ozone is expected to be at moderate levels today in Las Vegas, according to a government air quality program.

That means people who are unusually sensitive to ozone should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors, according to the government's AIRNow program.

Afternoon high temperatures will warm up slightly by the middle of the week, the weather service said. The highs will be 103 degrees Tuesday, 104 Wednesday and 104 Thursday, forecasters said.

More afternoon clouds are expected by the middle of the week, but conditions will remain too dry to produce any rain other than virga, the weather service said.
