Carson City lawyer chosen to lead Ethics Commission

CARSON CITY – A Carson City lawyer has been selected as executive director of the Nevada Commission on Ethics.

The commission has interviewed eight candidates to succeed Patty Cafferata, who resigned this summer. Caren Jenkins, who served on the commission for six years previously, was chosen on a 5-3 vote.

Jenkins, in private practice, will take over the $92,360 a year job on Oct. 1.

The other top candidate was Tami DeVries, a researcher in the Las Vegas office of the commission.

The commission has authority to investigate and discipline public officers accused of breaking the law or rules.
