Police Blotter:

Police auxiliary an opportunity to help B.C.

Thomas Healing

Once again the Boulder City Police Department is looking for qualified volunteers to fill vacancies within the police auxiliary. I am putting out a request for all interested, willing, and qualified citizens who have a desire to serve the community. Please visit the Boulder City Human Resources link on the city's Web site for an application; we could use your support and skills in many different areas. The position is as a volunteer and gives you the opportunity to interact with the officers and civilian personnel of the police department as well as the community in a capacity that allows you to make a difference.

If you feel that you just aren't up to the challenge of the auxiliary, then I invite you to apply for the Boulder City Police Department's Citizen's Academy. The 23rd Citizen's Academy commences Sept. 10 and applications are available online or at the police department. Several graduates from the academy have gone on to become police auxiliary members and even reserve police officers. Please consider the opportunity to serve the community and gain a better understanding of the job of a police officer.

Officer Case responds to the Inner Circle Bar for a report of an intoxicated woman who was harassing other patrons.

Case's attempts to coax the woman from the bar at the bartender's request results in the woman going to jail for resisting a peace officer, battery on a peace officer, and public drunkenness. I just can't believe that a drunk person would want to fight a cop (sarcasm implied).

July 31

Officer Ham conducts a traffic stop on U.S. 93 at Veteran's Memorial Drive. After Ham arrests the driver for multiple traffic violations, Officer Johnson responds to the scene to assist with impounding the vehicle.

During the course of an inventory search of the vehicle, Johnson finds six grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe in the center console.

The driver is read her Miranda rights and she admits that the substance is methamphetamine. The charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and trafficking in a controlled substance are added to Ham's existing traffic charges.

Aug. 1

Officer Johnson responds to the St. Jude's Ranch for Children in reference to a burglary. A description of the suspect is given over the radio and a last known location and direction of travel. Johnson observes a female in the drainage ditch adjacent to the St. Jude's property and stops to talk to her.

During the course of the interaction, Johnson learns that the woman had just burglarized a mail room at St. Jude's and was still in possession of several stolen items. After she is read her Miranda rights she confesses to unlawfully entering the structure with the intent to commit a larceny and is subsequently arrested for burglary.

The BCPD is contacted by a detective from the Lucas County Sheriff's Office in Ohio regarding a wanted felon suspected of being in Boulder City. Officer Daly responds to the 1200 block of Wyoming Street in an attempt to serve the felony arrest warrant. Daly has no contact with the wanted subject at that location; however, he leaves a message for her to contact him with someone who is at the residence.

Shortly thereafter, the woman arrives at the police department to speak with Daly. Daly informs her that there is a warrant for her arrest for failure to pay child support in Ohio and the woman is arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center.

Aug. 5

Officers Perkins and Tomao respond to the 1300 block of New Mexico in reference to a suspicious circumstance. The person reporting advised they heard squealing tires and the sound of an impact, but they weren't sure where it occurred.

Perkins and Tomao locate a vehicle parked with its lights on and upon approach notice a man behind the wheel hiding beer bottles under the passenger seats. After speaking with Perkins, the man stated he has had too much to drink and shouldn't be driving.

Because Perkins observed the man in actual physical control of the vehicle, and due to the subject's level of intoxication, he is arrested for DUI.
