The far right is trying to shut down the debate on health care by inciting a small group of fanatics to attend town hall meetings. These fanatics scream and tell lies, such as that President Barack Obama wants old people to die before their time.
Convincing this minority that God is on their side and that our president is not a citizen is not democratic — it is atrocious. This percentage of the population will not believe the truth as long as they can harbor a conspiracy theory.
I once taught nurses’ aide classes in a small town where jobs were at a premium. I witnessed many examples of the dilemma faced by the working poor, including an aide who kept getting the hole in her tooth filled with temporary cement because she could not afford to get her tooth pulled or filled.
I am a registered nurse and I support President Obama’s health care plan because I care about working people.
