Las Vegas to climb back into the 100s

Chance for isolated thunderstorms moves Thursday into southern Nevada

Temperatures in the 100s return today to the Las Vegas area.

But clouds and some isolated thunderstorms could make their way by Thursday to southern Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

After highs reaching in the 90s through the weekend, today's forecast calls for the high to climb to 102 degrees in the Las Vegas Valley, the weather service said. The normal high for this day of the year is 103 degrees, and the record high was 115, set in 1940.

Temperatures will fall overnight to a low of 78 degrees, then rebound back into the 100s again on Tuesday, with the high reaching 104 under mostly clear skies, forecasters said.

Hot afternoon temperatures in the low 100s are expected for the valley through Friday, the weather service said.

The weather service said by the middle of the week an area of high pressure in the upper atmosphere is expected to become centered near the Four Corners area of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona.

The high pressure could bring moisture into southern Nevada and eastern Arizona, forecasters said.

While just some afternoon clouds are expected on Wednesday, isolated thunderstorms could develop by Thursday afternoon over Mojave County in Arizona and eastern Lincoln County in Nevada, the weather service said.
