Letter to the editor:
See through the false claims made by GOP
Friday, Aug. 7, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
The Republican Party continues to pander to the most naive and highly exploitable voters. Its game plan is to spread false information designed to instigate small minds into a frenzy. “The president is not an American citizen; the president’s health care plan will lead to forced euthanasia; people will not be able to choose their own doctors; the president’s plan will lead to health care rationing; the government will determine which medical procedures a patient can have.” These are just a few examples of the rhetoric used to rile its base.
The facts of President Barack Obama’s birth must be addressed by his administration for the benefit of the lower end of the intelligence scale that believes a plot in Kenya over four decades ago created false birth records for Obama so he could someday run for president of the United States.
Other fraudulent claims by Republicans can easily be put to rest by citing facts that contradict their claims about pending health care legislation. Republican leaders do not believe the garbage they are directing at the “less informed” among us. How long will it take them to realize that their highly regarded “base” will soon consist of pea-brained, dimwitted voters and gullible, elderly widows?
If they keep it up they will need to rid themselves of the elephant symbol and adopt Pinocchio as their new icon.

Phil Ventura says "The facts of President Barack Obama must be addressed by his administration for the benefit of the lower end of the intelligence scale...do not believe the garbage they are directing at the "less informed" among us....pea-brained, dimwitted voters and gullible, elderly widows"
I am surprised that the Harvard educated elite Doctor Phil Ventura would waste his time writing about and to the "lower end of the intelligence scale....and elderly widows"
Thank Dr Phil - Truely the kind of debate we need in America.
Prior to the GOP selecting the Elephant as its symbol, the creature had a nose smaller than Michael Jackson's.
The Republican Party is on a fast train to extinction and can't see past their noses. The Pinocchio characterization suits them.
Well, Future, every single jacka** pundit on the conservative end of the political spectrum in radio and on television has set the bar right on the ground for public discourse.
Phil Ventura is miles above these conservatives in his rhetoric.
The absolute lowest on the intelligence scale are those who believe that the Obamacare monstrosity is going to give Americans better care at lower cost. I believe it was Einstein who said that stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. ie Social Security is bankrupt, Medicare is bankrupt, Medicade is bankrupt. Obamacare will be next.
You don't have to be Harvard educated to know an idiot when you see one. Go Birthers! Keep that Republican party headed over the cliff.
Great letter Dr. Phil. Says it all.
It is the "pea-brained, dimwitted voters and gullible, elderly widows," along with those who want to shove their religion down everybody else's throat, whom the Republican Party loves. They are the manipulable who can be counted on to vote for those whose true agenda is to enrich the rich and enslave as many as possible to those with the most. If naive and highly exploitable voters weren't Republican, there wouldn't be a Republican base at all. However, that's not to say the Democratic Party is always better, or that it, too, doesn't have naive and highly exploitable voters. One of the problems is that our country is overflowing with poorly educated, uninformed voters of both right and left.
At this point in the political process regarding healthcare reform legislation, none of us should be getting our knickers in a twist because at this point there are several versions of the bill in both houses of Congress and one which isn't even out of committee yet. This process is long from being over and producing a final bill. Both houses have to vote on their forms of the bills. Then the two forms go to a conference commitee made up of members of both houses of Congress and a semi-final form of the bill developed. The bill then goes back to the House of Representatives, is debated, and a vote is taken. Then the bill moves back to the Senate where it is debated and voted on. At any stage in the process after the bill emerges from the conference committee, it can be changed. If that happens, it goes through the process all over again. So at this point it makes little sense to rail against something so vigorously that doesn't even EXIST. It will be changed because this is how the Constitution and Congressional rules mandate that bills be handled. You'll also notice that this bill began in the H of R. That is because the Constitution states in Article I that all legislation dealing with finance must begin in the H of R. You'll also notice that the president has let Congress design this bill. This is also established by the Constitution. The president cannot introduce bills into Congress. That's why when I hear some members of this society refer to HC reform as Obamacare, I shake my head. I feel pretty certain that if any president could demand certain bills into laws, he/she would jump at the chance, but this is not the case. This is a Congressional hc reform bill.
jajama - What planet have you been on?
"Then the bill moves back to the Senate where it is debated and voted on." To debate it would imply that they would have read it. Get with the program. Their votes are bought and paid for - why read the bill?
"You'll also notice that the president has let Congress design this bill. This is also established by the Constitution." Wow - you're really out of touch, aren't you?
"This process is long from being over and producing a final bill." Are you aware that less than 2 weeks ago there was hope among the libs that before the recess there would be a vote?
I'm glad you paid attention in school during U.S. Government classes, but then there's reality. It sounds like you voted for Obama because you believed what he said and you believed he was different. Sorry.
How easy it would be for the President to just release his birth certificate to the press. Too much to ask?
I am a democrat and my party thinks that if you question or demand answer you are a tool of G.O.P or a mob. This is still America we must question are leader and we must be skeptical of anything that comes out of D.C. that is called a democracy.
neiman1: You're really a Democrat in disguise trying to kill the Republican Party aren't you?
Wake up Birther boy! Don't you see what you're doing?
neiman: "How easy it would be for the President to just release his birth certificate to the press. Too much to ask?"
Yes it is too much to ask. It would make no sense for the President to wallow in the mud with the "pea-brained, dimwitted voters and gullible, elderly widows" as the letter writer stated above. I know he's president of all the people and maybe he can put something in the health care reform bill that will help those of you who rode the short bus to school.
Hyperbole. Both sides on the healthcare reform debate are attempting to spin up their bases by demonizing the opposition, drowning out any serious discussion of a single payer system versus a more regulated & moderated market system. (And some, like Ventura, obviously take an extremely leftist and elitist view; personally I kind of like the working class and elderly -- they tend to be a rather honest & decent sort.)
And while disrupting townhalls is hardly showcasing American democracy at its finest, the holier than thou attitude of the Demos is getting pathetic. I seem to recall many on the left doing much the same if not worse during townhalls and even some church services.
And please "birthers", put a sock in it. As far as most people are concerned, the question was answered by the State of Hawaii. Now you're just making yourselves look like another odd collection of conspiracy buffs.
NLV-indep13:"And some, like Ventura, obviously take an extremely leftist and elitist view; personally I kind of like the working class and elderly -- they tend to be a rather honest & decent sort."
I tend to like the working class also since I'm one of them. We obviously have a different view of who, and why, the Republican Party is directing their rhetoric towards the lower end of the spectrum. If the "Birthers", and the people trying to scare the elderly with talk of euthanasia and the fear of losing their health insurance to socialism, are who you feel make up the Republican base, then yes, you can call me lefty.
If you think a fair debate among intelligent individuals is warranted over this most important issue relative to America's solvency, then you can call me an elitist. I don't give a rat's butt. Just cut the BS and upgrade the arguments.
FTR I have long been a registered Independent and wouldn't have any part of either of our two prominent political parties. However I do recognize the importance of the system and I don't like seeing the Republicans making fools of themselves, groveling for votes at the bottom of the barrel, or as you have so generously elevated them to, "the working class."
How's this for a simply marvelous idea? Read the bill yourself. If that's beyond your attention span, at least read the parts and pages the Rabble Rousers claim will kill grandma, pay for illegals, limit your coverage, etc, etc. Here's the link to the House Bill:
http://docs.house.gov/edlabor/AAHCA-Bill...
the man was elected; its over. its history. let it go. get a life. move on.
In the end, the Democrats and Obama will get pretty much what they want with several compromises along the way.
The Democrats are in control of both houses and as long as the leaders of the Democrat Party can get the "blue dogs" to go along with them, they will get their bill into law.......pretty simple stuff over all.
