Woman, 73, struck by car while crossing street, critically injured

A 73-year-old woman pushing a wheelchair filled with groceries and crossing Nellis Boulevard against a “don’t walk” signal was critically injured Wednesday night when she was hit by a car, Metro Police said.

The incident happened at 8:08 p.m. at the intersection with Washington Avenue in the northeast valley.

Based on evidence and witness statements, police said, the woman, Grace Flowers of Las Vegas, was in the crosswalk when she was hit by a northbound 1994 Lincoln Continental driven by Jose Velazquez, 44, of Las Vegas.

Flowers was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the car was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation, police said.
