The Young Veins’ “Change”: Pretty. Odd. producer Rob Mathes continues his retro-psych grooming, while newly Topanga, California-based Ross steps in front of the mic to reveal a competent set of pipes on this clap-happy jangle. Pleasantly lo-fi and decidedly retro, even if The Beatles emulation has been paired with thematic similarities to Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.”
Panic! At the Disco’s “New Perspective”: The exclamation point is back, and so are the cheeky double entendres. “Can we fast-forward to go down on me?/Stop there and let me correct it,” Urie asks as big synths and bigger “woo-oo” backing vocals complete the upbeat, perfectly manicured ode to sex, ambivalence and, ahem, moving on.
