Art auction raises $5,000 for museum

The Boulder City Art Guild raised about $5,000 for the Boulder City Museum and Historical Association through a silent auction of artwork that ended July 24.

About 100 pieces of art — 69 framed, the rest prints and posters — were on display at the Boulder Dam Credit Union in July, and residents were able to look at them and write bids for purchase.

Veterans home plans open house

The Nevada State Veterans Home will holds its seventh annual Open House at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at 100 Veterans Memorial Drive.

Tours of the veterans home will be provided, as well as refreshments.

Student Council to hold garage sale

The Boulder City High School Student Council will hold a garage sale from 7 to 10 a.m. Aug. 8 at 1513 Della Court, off Sandra Drive.

The group is accepting donations through Friday of items in good condition. Call 279-4463 for a pickup.

Proceeds from the sale will support the Student Council programs at Boulder City High School, such as homecoming and dances. The council receives no funding from the school.

Grace Academy registering for fall

Grace Christian Academy is registering students for the 2009-10 school year.

The private school, which is affiliated with Grace Community Church, accepts children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Disaster class scheduled

Registrations are being accepted for the next Boulder City Neighborhood Community Emergency Response Team classes, which begin Sept. 22.

The classes teach residents what to do in the case of a disaster, such as an earthquake, team members say could leave Boulder City cut off from the rest of Southern Nevada for a week.

The six-class course meets Tuesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. and covers topics from preparedness to fire suppression to disaster psychology.

The course ends with a simulation of a disaster as it would possibly play out in Boulder City.
