Board grants parole to convicted murderer

CARSON CITY – Albert Scott, convicted of a murder in Las Vegas in 1975, is going to be freed from prison.

The state Board of Parole Commissioners has granted release of Scott on Aug. 14. But David Smith, executive director of the board, said Scott must have a release plan before being freed.

Scott was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for the killing of Lynette Blake and was rejected by the parole board a number of times.

The board denied two other Las Vegas killers who appeared last month at a hearing. Both men, serving life terms with parole, won’t be able apply for release until October 2012.

The board turned down Bart Byrd who pleaded guilty in 1988 to killing Julius Lust. Lust was beaten to death with a claw hammer and his head was severed with a knife.

Also denied was Gary L. Breese, who pleaded guilty in 1993 to first degree murder in the slaying of his wife, Linda Breese, who disappeared in 1990. Her skeletal remains were found buried in a mountainous area between Blue Diamond and Mountain Springs three years later.
