Gas prices creeping up, but lower than a month ago

Gas prices around southern Nevada

Gasoline prices are on the rise again, but even with a slight increase, the price of gas remains lower today than it was a month ago.

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in the Las Vegas area is currently $2.588, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

Mid-grade gas averages $2.728 and premium, $2.827; while diesel costs $2.58 a gallon.

Those prices are up from a week ago, when regular gas cost $2.546 a gallon.

But at the beginning of July, the cost was even higher, $2.698 for regular and $2.947 for premium.

Southern Nevada drivers can also be grateful they are not in Reno, where regular gas is 20 cents more expensive today.

And today’s Las Vegas prices remain far below the $4 prices drivers faced last summer.

A year ago today, regular gas was $3.964, mid-grade was $4.120 and premium was $4.226. Diesel was even higher: $4.609.

The highest price for regular gas recorded by AAA was on June 21, 2008, when regular was $4.279 a gallon.
