The scheduled takeoff of an F-15 fighter jet's 50-mile flight from Nellis to Creech Air Force Base - by way of helicopter - was postponed today because more equipment is needed and there were high winds.
The jet can't fly as it has been used as a trainer for maintenance. So the F-15 was to be strapped to a 98-foot-long, Army Chinook helicopter for the 30-45 minute journey, some of which people will be able to see as it goes north over Highway 95 (not over any inhabited areas).
The jet will be used at Creech by Air Force emergency response teams to practice pilot rescue procedures, as well as by Air Force fire fighters to practice responding to aircraft ground emergencies.
