Reservoir to be drained for annual maintenance

Water service to Henderson, industrial complex will not be disrupted

Water Reservoirs

Basic Water Co., which supplies raw water to the city of Henderson and the Black Mountain Industrial Complex, will be emptying 50,000 gallons of water from a reservoir in downtown Henderson for annual maintenance.

The maintenance to the reservoir, which continues through April 20, will cause no disruption of water service, company officials said.

The work will include emptying the East Raw Water Reservoir, followed by a thorough wash down, inspection and completion of repairs as needed. This is a standard maintenance procedure that is followed each year.

About 50,000 gallons of water will be discharged from the reservoir, 414 Water St., from Friday through Sunday, into the city’s open and underground channel system. The water will travel a roughly three-mile route to Lake Mead.

The runoff will pose no impact to the environment, company officials said. The discharged water originated from Lake Mead and hasn’t been used or processed.

The company is working closely with Henderson and Nevada Division of Environmental Protection to ensure compliance with all local and state requirements.

After the routine maintenance work is completed, the reservoir will be refilled.

The company’s West Raw Water Storage Reservoir will be used to continue serving the Black Mountain Industrial Complex and Henderson. Routine maintenance on the west reservoir will begin after the east reservoir has been returned to service.

Basic Water Company is based in Henderson and has been supplying water to the city of Henderson and its industrial customers for more than 65 years.
