Post 31 News:

Nominating committee naming candidates

Boulder City Post 31 of the American Legion holds its regular monthly business meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 7 p.m., at Legion Hall, 508 California Ave. All veterans are welcome.

Commander Doug McHam wants to remind members of the importance of this meeting when the nominating committee announces candidates for the elective offices. The floor is still open for further nominations. Delegates and alternates to the Department Convention this year will also be selected.

Meantime, last month's combined St. Patrick's Day and American Legion 90th birthday party was an outstanding success. Attendance overflowed the decorated tables set up along the wall and two more tables had to be hastily put in place and decorated with the gaily colored table cloths, balloons, green napkins and accessories.

It was one of the larger parties hosted by Post 31. Adjutant Joe Bowyer was given credit for the great attendance. He sent out many personal invitations to members of Post 31 and nearby posts. Attending were several members of Post 40 in Henderson and a couple from Nelson.

Post 31 provided the corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes, carrots, beverages and a huge chocolate birthday cake. Many appetizing side dishes and desserts were brought by guests and members.

Auxiliary Unit 31 provided the good Gaelic music and vocals performed by "Irish" Peterson. He was joined with spirited singing and dancing by the large audience.

The evening was topped off by the raffling of nine excellent door prizes donated by various members.

Chairman, cook and planner for the affair was Chaplain Ruth Taylor. She was assisted with the decorating and table settings by Elma Donahue, Marilyn Doty, Helen Green and E.J. Juley.

Food preparation was handled by Fran Knauss, Dave Mulligan and Taylor. The muscle work of setting up the tables and chairs and taking them down after the event was handled by Jack Belleau.

All in all, old timers agreed it rates as one of the better affairs staged by Post 31

It was announced by Auxiliary President Knauss that the group has undertaken a new fundraiser to augment its veterans' activities. They are sponsoring a cruise on the Carnival Paradise for a four-night soiree to Baja, Mexico, Sept. 21 this year.

The cruise goes to Catalina for the first day, Ensenada the second day, a luxurious day on the ocean the third day, then back to Long Beach the fourth night.

Prices have been set at $286.68 for 4B inside cabins and $336.68 for 6B oceanview cabins. Reservations are being taken.

For information and/or reservations, call Dees Travel at 702-293-6151. Ask for Dolores or Joe.

The popular Thursday morning coffee/breakfast socials continue from 7 to 9 every Thursday the hall is not otherwise booked. The McHam omelets have become a staple accompanied by bacon, sausage, pancakes and often biscuits and gravy.

Don't forget the regular meeting next Tuesday, 7 p.m.
