Park Service to waive fees Saturday at Lake Mead

Wed, Sep 24, 2008 (10:18 a.m.)

Residents who plan to visit Lake Mead on Saturday can leave their money at home.

The National Park Service is waiving entrance fees to Lake Mead National Recreation Area on Saturday in honor of National Public Lands Day. Fees are being waived at all 147 national parks across the country that charge an entrance fee.

Other federal agencies not charging for admittance that day include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service.

"National Public Lands Day is the only time that entrance fees are waived systematically on public lands throughout the country," the National Park Service said in a statement.

Newly naturalized U.S. citizens can come back to Lake Mead the next day, on Sunday, for another day with waived entrance fees.
