Todd Palin brushes off subpoena from panel investigating Troopergate
Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 | 2:07 a.m.
How many people would have the gall to tell a legislative committee they were going to ignore its subpoena because they had travel plans? Oh, and that they did not believe the committee’s investigation was legitimate.
Among the people with that kind of arrogance is Todd Palin, husband of John McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
The committee wants Todd Palin to appear because he is thought to have played a major role in Troopergate, the name given to the controversial decision by Sarah Palin to fire Alaska’s public safety commissioner.
Allegations are swirling that Gov. Palin and her husband wanted the commissioner fired because he failed to dismiss a state trooper who is her former brother-in-law and who is involved in a nasty Palin family dispute.
A month before McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate, the Alaska Legislative Council, made up of eight Republicans and four Democrats, voted unanimously to hire an experienced investigator to determine whether Gov. Palin had abused her power.
On Sept. 12 the Alaska Senate’s Judiciary Committee — three Republicans and two Democrats — voted to issue subpoenas to Todd Palin and 13 other people, including members of the Palin administration.
The Alaska Legislature, as it should be, is just trying to see whether there is any truth to the allegations.
On Friday, however, Todd Palin, through a McCain-Palin campaign spokesman, said he would not honor the subpoena. Among the reasons: The investigation has become politicized. Todd Palin’s attorney added that the subpoena is “unduly burdensome” because his client has travel plans.
Earlier last week the Alaska attorney general had announced that Sarah Palin would not cooperate with the Legislature’s investigation, and members of her staff wouldn’t, either.
And Sarah Palin is the one to “reform” Washington?

On Oct. 10th, the Alaskan Democrat ran investigation of Palin will released its report. Obviously, they will do anything to damage Palin.
1. The Democrat State Senator running the investigation has said that the investigation will be an October surprise and will be damaging to Palin. How does he know that unless the outcome is already planned by him?
2. The lead investigator and the Democrat State Senator in-charge of the investigation have conflicts of interest because both are friends with the commissioner that resigned. Neither man disclosed this fact before the investigation started.
3. There is a picture of the three top Democratic investigators meeting in Obama's Alaska headquarters.
4. The investigator is conducting secret depositions that Palin's lawyer will not be able to see until after the report is released by the bias Democrat State Senator.
5. This whole thing is about a trooper who has already admitted to using a taser on his own 11 year-old step-son but he has never been charged on assault charges or disciplined for that tasering.
6. Supposedly, the lead investigator is to be independent but the Democrat in-charge of the investigation is directing him on which witnesses to question.
7. The head investigator might have lied in testimony to the committee on Sept. 12th. He said he has received no evidence that Mr. Palin has called for the trooper's firing. Yet, on national TV the resigned commissioner has pushed that claim. This indicates that the investigator is attempting to hide his attacks on Palin until Oct 10th. This proves that the investigator is part of the Democrats' attempt to destroy Palin.
Once again, Nance FAILS at giving ANY sources. Give up, crybaby and answer my questions...unless you truly a COWARD....
Unless the guy that got fired was elected or had an employment contract, he serves at the pleasure of the governor. There are thousands of people fired every day, so why should this be any different. How many people has the Sun fired and escorted out the door? Should we call a state hearing on the Sun? This is nothing more than the usual witch hunt all parties do to get a leg up. Sun, the sky is not falling so take a time out and sit in the corner until your sanity returns.
Greetings from Alaska. Right now any questions for our Governor have to go through the McCain Campaign Headquarters. All answers come from a McCain lawyer. This is blatent control and manipulation of information by the McCain Campaign. The McCain camp is the one that is trying to influence the investigation here in our state. I am appalled at the blatent partisan antics of McCain.
Here are some facts to consider.
A committee of 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats voted unanimously to start an investigation into the firing of Commissioner Monegan. The committee also voted to issue the subpoenas. The Democrat in charge of the committee is not in charge of the investigation. No assault charges were filed for the tasering, even though Palin's sister was home. The tasering was not brought up until the messy dievorce began. If you read the full report of the tasering incident it was not done in anger or in a dangerous manner, it was done in a controlled manner on the lowest possible setting because the child was curious. Smart - No - but probably as dangerous as licking a nine volt battery.
Yeah.....it is OK for a 11 year boy to have a taser to used on him....no big deal......shows that the trooper is a grade A police officer material....
If the Democrat in charge of the committee is not in charge of the investigation then why does the investigator have to approval from the same Democrat to put people on his witness list. He does not ask the whole committee just that one Democrat.
That same Democrat has already declared that the outcome will be an October Surprise.......that certainly sounds like a fair fact finding investigation.
So is he ignoring the subpeona or what - I just want to know if a precedent is being set or what in case I ever get a subpeona that might inconvenience my life.
The GOP does NOT Believe in the Rule of Law

Have YOU seen Trig's Birth Certificate?
More of the 'do as I say, not as I do' regime - Just what makes these rich, fat cows think the laws are for everyone BUT them - what makes them so special? I am really just sick to death over the sorry state this Country now finds itself in.
Funny there was no investigation until after she was a VP pick. Dems are just grasping at anything and everthing now because they know thay are going to loose. Just leave the Palins alone and accept defeat.
Yeah funny how she was for the investigation prior to being a running mate, and now she's against it (like a certain bridge). She encouraged the investigation, and now she wants it buried. I just say it looks like Palin flip flopped.
Yes it is funny on how the Democratic in-charge of the investigation told news organizations that he was going to generated an "october surprise" to hurt Palin.
Yes that is funny.
