Sun City Summerlin board position to stay open until February

As president of the Sun City Summerlin Community Association Board of Directors, Richard Post's workload just grew a little bigger.

Ed Walterscheid resigned from the board on Aug. 25 due to health reasons and one of his roles was that of chairman of the Legal Services Committee.

At its Sept. 15 meeting, the board voted unanimously to leave Walterscheid's vacancy open and have Post fill in as the chair of the Legal Services Committee.

The vacancy will remain until late February, when the general election will determine Walterscheid's replacement. Ballots for the election will be mailed to each homeowner in Sun City Summerlin in the January edition of the "Link" community magazine and the last day to vote is Feb. 24.

"It's not that far until the election, and by the time we go through the process of people volunteering and being interviewed, it would be even closer to the election," Post said.

The Legal Services Committee has five more meetings until the election, and although it's going to be extra work for Post, he is confident that he can handle the load.

"It won't be that much of a drain for me. We have awfully good members on that committee and they can support me," he said.

Post's role on the committee is temporary — at the board's first meeting in March the president will appoint new chairs for each of the association's committees, which will be subject to confirmation by the board.

Post is already somewhat familiar with the role — he has served more than a year on-and-off with the Legal Services Committee, which reviews governing documents and prepares written revisions for the board to consider and submit for approval.

If the Board of Directors changes any aspects of the community's rules and regulations, the Legal Services Committee — a nine-member panel of volunteer residents with legal backgrounds — ensures that the changes are in compliance with state law.

Walterscheid also served as the board secretary, and current board member Patricia Cullen was selected to fill that role during the Sept. 15 meeting.

Cullen will keep records of each meeting and respond to all correspondence directed to the association.
