Nevada Cancer Institute receives highest accreditation

The Nevada Cancer Institute received the Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, the highest form of accreditation from the independent organization that is the nation's oldest and largest accrediting body in health care.

In July, The Joint Commission conducted a three-day on-site evaluation of the institute and found no "requirement for improvement," meaning the institute received a perfect score. The Cancer Institute received word of the approval at the end of August. The review included examining quality and safety of patient care and included all aspects of the institute's business.

"This is incredibly important for the community because we're building confidence in the health care system where they live," said Heather Murren, chairwoman of the board and co-founder of the institute. "We wanted accreditation from a third party to make sure the facility meets the highest standards possible.

"It took an extraordinary effort from everyone. Every single person here is dedicated to exceptional care."

Because the institute is an outpatient care facility, it was accredited under the ambulatory care survey.

"This is the first outpatient organization in the state in six years to get enough finding to be accredited on the first shot," Murren said.
