Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 | 1:23 p.m.

A man shot to death by officers this week in Hawthorne suspected of committing home burglaries in Clark County was identified today as 31-year-old Kelly Ryu Stenstrum.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety said Stenstrum was under investigation by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies for crimes that included burglary and stolen weapons. He was wanted by U.S. marshals to failing to surrender himself to serve a federal prison term.

Stenstrum's last known address is in Grand Forks, N.D. He was identified through FBI fingerprints.

Authorities said Stenstrum committed four home burglaries in Mesquite, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, then left the area in a stolen 2005 Cadillac. Stenstrum was found at about 3 p.m. Tuesday in Hawthorne, where he was shot to death after failing to surrender and give up his weapon.

No officers were injured. Hawthorne is about 310 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

State officials are investigating whether Stenstrum was involved in other illegal activities between North Dakota and Nevada.
