Boulder City High's girls' golf team has won the state championship.
The Eagles won the 3A tournament at Spring Creek Golf Course near Elko Monday and Tuesday with a team score of 390-385 — 775 on the par-71, 5,658-yard course. Virgin Valley was second, 18 shots back.
"I am so happy right now," Boulder City senior Margot Potter said.
Boulder City's top four golfers all finished in the top 10. Potter had the team's highest finish by taking fourth place with a 94-89 — 183.
Senior Ashley Vince was sixth with a 100-94 — 194, sophomore Indiana Mead was seventh at 96-102 — 198 and junior Bridget Ward finished tied for ninth with a 102-101 — 203.
Boulder City's other two golfers were sophomores Bree Morang (100-105 — 205) who tied for 13th and Lizz Ropp (129-131 — 260) who finished 37th. Their scores didn't count toward the team total.
"We weren't real happy with our scores after the first day even though we were leading by six. We thought they were a little high," Boulder City coach Regina Quintero said. "It put a little pressure on us to come out today and widen the gap over Virgin Valley."
It was the first state title in the program's history.
"It's an awesome feeling. It's great to go out as a senior with a win like this," Vince said.
Boulder City dedicated its season in memory of teammate Bethany Smith, who died on Sept. 20 because of heart problems.
"This year was a struggle. They're a good group of girls and they handled it as well as they could. They kept playing and I think that's what she would have wanted," Quintero said.
The Eagles also captured the 3A Southern League title Thursday at Boulder City Golf Course. Potter shot an 86 to lead the Eagles.
