Police see increased interest in job openings

Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 | 1:48 p.m.

The Metro Police department has openings for 300 to 400 police officers each year, and the department already has received about 1,100 applications for a test scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The next test for those applying for the positions is at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Cashman Center, Hall B, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. N. The 1,100 applications indicates "much higher than normal" interest in the job openings, Metro Police said.

The department said it needs to hire 300 to 400 officers each year to keep up with law enforcement demands in the Las Vegas area.

Additional tests are scheduled for Nov. 12 and Dec. 9. Testing for corrections officers is scheduled for Nov. 10.

Online applications, which are available at protectthecity.com, are due no later than 7 a.m. the day before the testing.
