Las Vegas Market to move from summer to fall for 2009

World Market Center Las Vegas has announced that starting in 2009 it will host the Las Vegas Market in fall and winter instead of summer and winter to better serve the home furnishings industry.

The winter market dates of Feb. 9-13 remain unchanged, while the fall market will take place from Sept. 14-17.

In addition, starting in September 2009, the market will be shortened to four days from five.

The markets are industry showcase events at which hundreds of exhibiting companies display products.

The change puts the fall market here in direct competition with the High Point Fall Market, the other major industry trade show, which takes place in October in High Point, N.C.

The sagging economy, which has hit the furniture industry especially hard, could force some industry professionals to choose between the competing fall market events.

World Market Center Las Vegas officials say the change was made in response to requests from market guests and exhibitors, but the move clearly indicates market officials here feel they are ready to compete directly with the High Point Market.
