Boy, 16, critically injured in one-vehicle crash
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 | 7:32 a.m.
A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a one-vehicle crash this morning after his vehicle struck a light pole in the western valley.
Metro Police responded at 12:40 a.m. to the crash at Alta Drive and Lorenzi Street. That location is just northeast of the intersection of Charleston and Rainbow boulevards.
Investigators said the teenager was the only occupant of the 1993 Jeep Cherokee as it traveled westbound on Alta. The boy then lost control of the vehicle, which struck a light pole and a block wall at the southwest corner of the intersection, police said.
The driver was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit with critical injuries, authorities said. The boy's name wasn't being released this morning.
The Metro Police Accident Investigation Section is investigating the crash.
