Whether it involves reading, gardening or sharing culinary secrets, the Summerlin Library is introducing several programs this fall geared toward adults 18 years and older.
"We're always looking for new programs to bring more patrons into the library," said Alexandria McEwen, adult service librarian at the Summerlin Library. "We pretty much already have a base with children and teens. Now was the time to expand."
All of the events are free and open to the public.
From 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 30, visitors interested in cooking will have a chance to share recipes and learn the secrets of a professional chef in the Recipe Exchange program.
The event will feature chefs from the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Las Vegas. Recipe Exchange might continue on a monthly basis in January, McEwen said, based on attendance.
The library also hosted the first meeting of its Tuesday night Gardening Club on Sept. 2 and the next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 7. The Gardening Club will continue to meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
The Book Chat Café meets on the third Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to noon, providing avid readers with a chance to share coffee, snacks and lively discussions about selected books.
The group's next meeting is Oct. 18 and will be centered on the novel "Skeletons at the Feast" by Chris Bohjalian, which tells the tale of three young Jews — Anna, Callum and Uri — who flee Poland during World War II to reach Allied lines.
Finally, those who love to play Scrabble can join Scrabble Monday Madness, a group that meets twice a month at the library. The next meeting is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 6.
