Man, 24, dies in one-vehicle crash

A 24-year-old Las Vegas man died Thursday morning from injuries suffered when he lost control of his vehicle in the eastern Las Vegas Valley.

Metro Police responded to the crash at 3:40 a.m. near the intersection of East Washington Avenue at North Christy Lane. That location is east of Nellis Boulevard between Owens Avenue and Bonanza Road.

Investigators said the victim's 1993 Ford Thunderbird was eastbound on Washington and failed to stop at a stop sign at Christy. The vehicle hit a dip in the road and the driver lost control, causing the Thunderbird to strike a light pole and go through a chain-link fence, police said.

The driver, who wasn't identified pending notification of family, was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead.

Two passengers, identified as Bambi Lynn Garcia, 17, and Felicia Gonzales, 19, both of Las Vegas, weren't injured.

This is the 107th traffic fatality of the year in Metro Police jurisdiction.
