Boy, 5, critically injured in collision with SUV

A 5-year-old boy was critically injured in a collision with a vehicle Friday evening west of Interstate 15 and the Las Vegas Strip.

Metro Police responded to an alley south of 4043 Silver Dollar Ave., near Building 29, at 6:40 p.m. Friday after a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer collided with the boy. That location is southwest of Sahara Avenue's intersection with Valley View Boulevard.

Investigators said the Blazer was westbound in the alley to exit onto Wing Street when the boy emerged from between two parked cars and into the path of the Blazer. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Sarahi Garcia-Colmenero, 31, of Las Vegas, wasn't able to stop and the Blazer struck the boy, authorities said.

The boy, who wasn't being identified because of his age, was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit in critical condition, police said.

The crash is under investigation by the Metro Police accident investigation detail.
