The Las Vegas Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America is making its pitch to boys in grades one through five to sign up for scouting.
Cub Scout packs will hold recruiting drives at seven sites on one night this year to encourage at least 300 boys and their parents to join.
Scouting combines outdoor and academic activities that help families teach honesty, good citizenship and respect, South Area Field Director Ralph Thorne said.
More than 7,800 boys participate in Cub Scouts in the Las Vegas area, which includes parts of Northern Arizona and Eastern California.
The recruitment drive will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 19 at Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road; Paradise Community Center, 4775 McLeod Drive; Aggie Roberts Elementary School, 227 Charter Oak; Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center, 7220 S. Paradise Road; O.K. Adcock Elementary School, 6350 Hyde Avenue; YMCA Building, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive; and the Desert Breeze Community Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.
Boys will be assigned to a pack that night. Every boy who signs up receives a free pinewood derby kit.
