Bicyclist, 15, injured in vehicle collision

A 15-year-old boy riding a bicycle in a residential neighborhood in the northwestern Las Vegas Valley was critically injured Saturday morning during a collision with a pickup truck.

Metro Police responded at 9:18 a.m. to the accident at the intersection of Mariner and Valiant drives. That location is southwest of the intersection of West Cheyenne Avenue and North Buffalo Drive.

Investigators said evidence indicates the bicyclist was northbound on Mariner crossing Valiant in a marked bicycle lane. The driver of a southbound 2005 Dodge Ram started to turn left onto Valiant and didn't see the bicyclist, who was struck and ejected from the bicycle, police said.

The boy, whose name wasn't being released because he is a juvenile, was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, authorities said. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Robert Katz, 50, of Las Vegas, wasn't injured.

No charges have been filed pending further investigation.
