Pedestrian injured in collision west of Strip

A pedestrian was critically injured in a vehicle collision this morning west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Metro Police said the pedestrian, identified as 48-year-old Bruce Hunchak, was crossing Tropicana Avenue from north to south outside a crosswalk shortly after 3 a.m. about 175 feet west of Polaris Avenue. That location is just west of the Tropicana Avenue bridge over Interstate 15.

Investigators said a 2007 Dodge Caravan traveling westbound in the center lane of Tropicana wasn't able to stop before striking Hunchak. The driver of the Caravan, James Ellers, 65, and a passenger, Chris Godfrey, 32, both of Las Vegas, weren't injured.

Hunchak was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit with critical injuries, police said. His hometown wasn't available.

The accident remains under investigatation.
